The City ofChetek is located in Barron County, and is home to about 2,200 residents. The city is located on the shores of Chetek and Prairie Lakes. Lake Chetek is a quality recreational lake with 683 surface acres and a maximum depth of 22 feet. Lake Chetek is part of a Six Lake Chain with over 60 miles of total shoreline, and 3,800 acres of water.
The lakes are home to many species of fish including crappies, bluegills, perch, bass, northern and walleyes. They are stocked each year with thousands of walleye fingerlings, courtesy of the DNR and our local Lake Protection Association. There are twelve public boat landings, numerous public fishing areas, a public beach, three waterfront restaurants and many resortson the Six Lake Chain.
Chetek is home to the annual Fish-o-Rama, an all-summer event that draws fishing enthusiasts to the lake for a chance to catch tagged fish for cash prizes. Chetek also features several popular area events throughout the year, including Winterfest, the Chetek Liberty Festival, Brewfest & Ribfest, Music in the Park, Chetek Crazy Days and the Harvest Festival.
Chetek also has several unique summer experiences, including a water ski show team. The Hydroflites Waterski Show Team preforms FREE shows on Lake Chetek twice a week during the summer months. They also offer learn to ski opportunities for a small fee. In addition to the ski team, Chetek has a double screen drive in movie theater located just north of town. The Stardust Twin Drive In Theater is a fantastic family activity and a great way to enjoy a beautiful summer evening.
The City of Chetekhas six city parks, a baseball field and a basketball court, a city boat landing and a public beach. Chetek also has a municipal airport with a heated terminal and traveler amenities. There are two medical clinics in the city and two hospitals, both within 20 minutes of downtown.
